A baptism is one of the most special and intimate celebrations in a child’s life. It is a day when the family gives thanks together for a new life, while the parents and godparents ask for God’s blessing upon the child. As a photographer, it is important to me to preserve not only the baptism itself, but also the small, genuine moments that surround this day.
The preparations, the emotions of the parents and godparents, the church ceremony, the baptism, prayer, the blessing and the time spent together as a family all form part of the story that the photographs will tell again in the future. I try to be present naturally and unobtrusively so that the baptism photographs contain more than posed portraits: real emotions, glances, embraces and affectionate family moments matter just as much.
Alongside the religious ceremony, I also consider family portraits and spontaneous images of the people gathered around the child an important part of the day. For me, baptism photography combines event photography, family photography and the preservation of an important family memory.
I believe these photographs become more valuable as the years pass. They make it possible to return to the day when the family came together to celebrate an important milestone in the child’s life. When photographing baptisms in Târgu Mureș and Mureș County, I follow the same natural, personal approach, always paying attention to genuine emotions and the relationships between the people present.
